Fred and Mitzie Ruiz Scholarship

As longtime donors and two of UC Merced’s earliest and most dedicated advocates, Fred and Mitzie Ruiz have established the Fred and Mitzie Ruiz Scholarship which will provide significant renewable scholarship support to incoming and transfer students from within the Central Valley and the out-of-state counties in which Ruiz Food Products, Inc. (“Ruiz Foods”) operates. This pivotal support will be essential to UC Merced’s commitment to continue expanding pathways that ensure access and the success of the campus’ vastly diverse student population.

Eligibility Criteria: Student eligibility is automatically determined based on your UC Admissions Application. Awarded to incoming freshman showing high academic excellence with an entry GPA of 3.25 or higher. Student must have a FAFSA or Dream Act Application completed by March 2nd of award year. Student must demonstrate financial need or belong to an underrepresented or vulnerable population. Eligible students must have graduated from a high school or are transferring from a community college and have a primary residence in one of the following counties: Fresno, Kern, King, Madera, Mariposa, Merced, Tulare or Stanislaus County in California; Grayson, Colin or Denton County in Texas; or Florence County in South Carolina.

This award is renewable up to 4 years in renewal criteria is met and student is in good academic standing. Must maintain full time enrollment for both fall and spring terms.
